What is the truth, and how do we perceive it?

Kaiyu's inspiration for this artwork stems from his experiences during a trip to Brussels, where he was frequently asked if the COVID-19 virus was designed by the Chinese government to kill elderly people and alleviate the burden of an aging population. Similar questions and conversations happened countless times after Kaiyu arrived in the Netherlands. This led him to ponder how such so-called truths or conspiracy theories are formed.

When Kaiyu was in China, most of the news he encountered about the West was negative, and when he was in Western countries, the news about China was similarly negative. It made him question whether the news truly presented the truth, or rather, just a part of it.

As a child, Kaiyu had heard a fable called "The Frog in the Well." Now, he realizes that people are like frogs living in different wells, each discussing the shape and color of the sky from their perspective. This realization was particularly poignant when Kaiyu looked out the window of his studio in Amsterdam. The dusk of the present moment was the night of another, and the blue sky now was the sunrise then.

We all share the same sky, but we never understand its common meaning and changes.

Kaiyu uses the sky as a metaphor for the truth, attempting to explore how images and information become symbols that are arbitrarily utilized in the media, inserted and filled into any context, constructing wells of so-called truth.
